Memorial Weekend

I hope ya'll are enjoying your weekend. For many, this weekend is the first sign of summer. Pools are opening, barbecues are happening, and the sun is shining bright. But this weekend, is also time to remember those who have and who are fighting for our freedom.

This past week a local fallen solider was brought home. There was a procession from the Jacksonville Naval Air Station to Gainesville. Citizens lined the road as the procession traveled past. While I didn't participate, I witnessed these events on television. I had this tingling feeling, just thinking about how our community comes together to support someone we don't even know. It was a beautiful sight.

Enjoy your weekend, but take a moment to think about those fighting for our freedom.

the Nettie

My newest obsession is the Lilly Pulitzer Nettie dress. Seriously, the pictures in the catalog and online do NOT do it justice. This dress is amazing on. The dress in real life has an improved tank top material and the skirt is placed higher. The skirt is flattering without being fitted (surprisingly doesn't make you look pregnant). Next time you're near a store, try it on! Of course, you can always order it from The Colorful Gator!

It comes in Just Add Lemon and Aquamarine Fresh Catch Toile. I picked up the later, but I think I will need to own both of these. It is a great dress, perfect for errands or lunch dates. Like the saying, "don't judge a book by its cover."

Manicure, anyone?

I don't know about you, but I personally love summer time. The weather is perfect for dresses, skirts, and tanks (all Lilly P., of course!).  But this weather also calls for manicure and pedicures.  While I don't get my nails professionally done weekly, I do try to paint my nails regularly.  With that, I have acquired a nice little collection of polishes.  Here are some of my new summer favorites!

Flower to flower (below) is from OPIs Summer Flutter collection.  I love this shade pink and there is just a little shimmer in it.  If you look at the others from this collection they are loaded in glitter.  I'm not a fan of such.  Flower to flower is perfect for toes and fingers.  I can't wait to pick it up!

Rumple’s Wiggin’ (from OPIs Shrek Forever After collection) is a perfect light shade of purple.  This color is subtle and will look good with most anything.  I would wear it on my fingers only though.  It is too light for my toes.

My last favorite is OPIs Quarter of a Cent-Cherry.  While it is not new (a 2007 collection, I think) it is one on my recent favorites.  You can never go wrong with a good red.  This is not too dark for summer. But it's not too pink-y.  I could wear this on my toes and finger.

I lean towards OPI polish for a few reasons.  I love the names of their colors and the quality is superb.  I also like the pro-wide brush.  While OPI tends to be a little more pricey, it is definetely worth it.  They last sometime as does a manicure with OPI polish.  When I go to a new salon, it is one of the first things I check for.  What are your must have polishes for summer?

Notsomuch

Today was a pretty low key day. I had a pretty bad headache for most of the afternoon and it carried into the evening. I thought eating dinner and taking some Tylenol would help ease it, but notsomuch. I didn't want to leave ya'll without anything, so I did a quick polyvore. Enjoy!

I LOVE the look of Tory Burch Thora sandals. Now I just need to et my hands on a pair! I have also been searching high and lwo for a great pair of aviators. Unfortunately, the Ray-Bans don't fit my face (even the smaller frame). So if you have any recommendations, let me know!

SALE!

Have you heard about the amazing Lilly Pulitzer sales going on this weekend? Well let me fill you in on the best one! Meet The Colorful Gator's Great Memorial Day Match sale! They will match any sale out there. This includes the tiered promotions, percentages off, or dollar amounts off. Simply tell them the promotion and they will match it. Shopping online? No problem! Before you complete your purchase there is a comment section. Fill-in the comment section with the best promotion you saw and they will apply the discount when your order is fulfilled. They also offer free shipping on purchases of $100 or more. This sale is just in time for Father's day and the Fourth of July. So ladies, its time to get shopping.

So what should you purchase! You are just in luck because I have some great suggestions. Have you ever tried on the Gloria Pants? They are amazing. You can dress them up or dress them down. These pants are great for running errands while still looking fabulous. Or wear them for a dinner date. You are sure to be comfortable in them. While you cannot see the detail in these, there is pink near the frogs. This is one way to style them; going to class.

Or how about the Lola Dress? This is another great dress and it has pockets! It has a great fit and I really love the shoulder straps. It seems like most summer dresses are strapless.

($148)

Another great classic piece, is the Roslyn skirt! It is a great length, appropriate for work, church and just because. The Roslyn comes in multiple prints and each has unique lace detailing. One of the newest prints and a favorite is Lilly Pad. The frogs are just adorable and the lighter coloring as well as the quiet print is great.

($118)

My last favorite (for today!) is the Katia Knit Wrap. This is one of the most versatile pieces and the price point is amazing. Wear this wrap on cool summer nights, when you're feeling sick (it is sure to make you smile!), or just to keep a little warm. I cannot wait to buy this piece.

($78)

So ladies, search high and low for the best deal and visit The Colorful Gator! Let me know what you purchase this weekend! Happy Shopping!

Guilty Pleasure

Tonight, 9 p.m. Eastern time, is the premiere of ABC's hit show The Bachelorette with Ali Fedotowsky.  I am excited for her return.  She was my favorite from Jake's season the The Bachelor, as well as, America's favorite.  Sadly, Ali's place of employment apparently requested her return.  However, I believed this was ABC's way of getting her off of The Bachelor.  It may be reality television, but it is scripted in ways.

(from abc.com)
She has a twitter account and has tweeted a few times.  One read, "I do read your tweets and they life my spirts."  Of course, she was under contract with ABC and still is and therefore, cannot respond.

I'm waiting for the day ABC has a woman on The Bachelor or The Bachelorette that wears Lilly P.  I understand not wearing clothing with names across them, but of course this is not Lilly.  If fact, most people I encounter do not recognize Lilly or even know what Lilly is. GASP!

Inaugural Post

Hi Blog-World! This is my first post here and what an exciting time to have my blog up and running! On Saturday, Lilly P. offered a great gift with purchase at an amazing price point, $250. I picked up a cooler but a little birdie told me some stores had wine sleeves and beach towels. I love my cooler, but a beach towel would have been great.
Did you pick up your cooler or were you one of the lucky few who snagged a  beach towel?  What were your purchases? I would love to know your thoughts of the current Summer line!

This blog will mainly consist of my Lilly Pulitzer favorites and reviews, polyvores, and an occasional giveaway. While I absolutely love Lilly, I will also post about others. Please e-mail me with your thoughts and suggestions as well as what you would like to see. I will also update you with my favorite blogs. And sales! When I find a great sale, I will be sure to notify you. I love to troll all the websites.
